Israel’s new startup carrier airHaifa has taken delivery of the first of two ATR 72-600s

Israel’s new startup carrier airHaifa has taken delivery of the first of two ATR 72-600s, following a firm order placed in 2023. The second aircraft is due for delivery in 2025.

With a focus on sustainable development, the aircraft are equipped with the latest Pratt & Whitney PW127XT-M engines. The advanced engine technology enabling CO2 emission savings of 45% compared to similar-size regional jets and a 40% greater cost-efficiency.

This initial delivery paves the way for airHaifa to launch commercial operations from Haifa International Airport in northern Israel. The airline will offer regular, affordable connections destinations across the Red Sea and Mediterranean.

“We are beyond excited to take delivery of the first aircraft of our fleet and achieve a major milestone as we ramp up to providing commercial services,” said Gonen Usishkin, chief executive officer of airHaifa. By building its fleet around ATR’s 72-600 Usishkin plans to actively “contribute to the region’s economic prosperity and provide customers with affordable, reliable, convenient and socially responsible means of transport.”

Meanwhile, Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, ATR’s chief executive officer, remarked on how the order marks an important milestone in the aircraft manufacturer’s efforts to enhance regional connectivity. “ATR has a proven track record in the regional aircraft market, making it the ideal partner for startup airlines looking to benefit from the expertise, experience and support of a well-established aircraft manufacturer.”
