The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has launched IATA Connect to create a secure community of aviation safety, security, compliance and operations.

With air transport safety and security leaders gathered in Marrakech for this year’s IATA World Safety and Operations Conference, the air transport trade boy has invited 2,300 aviation safety professionals, including regulators, airlines and auditors, to join IATA Connect. The new platform is currently focused on the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), providing users with access to the IOSA registry.

According to Willie Walsh, IATA’s director general, the platform will facilitate real-time collaboration, providing those working in the industry with a means to make flying even safer.

“Whether it is sharing an IOSA audit report, responding to a compliance questionnaire, updating information on codeshare partners, benchmarking resources, or information gathering, IATA Connect will bring new efficiencies and greater capabilities.

“By collecting critical IOSA audit data in a single location, keeping it updated and making the mechanics of information exchange easier, IATA Connect will be a compelling tool for everyone involved in aviation safety compliance and oversight,” Walsh said.

A key component of the platform is that it will house a secure private documentation repository, featuring audit reports, guidance materials, 440 airline profiles and industry alerts. The app also features Safety Connect, a longstanding secure forum used by interest groups for discussion and resources specific to operational areas such as cabin, cargo and ground operations. There is also the publicly available Safety Issue Hub, offering information on hazards and safety risks.

Ultimately, IATA aims to make the platform a virtual collaboration space for all aviation professionals, with the platform becoming a one-stop-shop for aviation safety professionals.
