London Heathrow Airport welcomed 7.6 million people in July, averaging nearly a quarter of a million passengers a day.

Over 73,000 passengers flew to Turkey in July, the busiest month ever for the destination. Departures to Gibraltar, Portugal and Italy have also all been close to record levels, proving popular destinations for sun seekers.

The Big Apple tops the charts as the most popular destination, with passengers taking advantage of the 31 daily flights from Heathrow to New York. The Airports Council International (ACI) recently named Heathrow the “best connected European airport” to North America.

Summer season

It has been a strong start to the summer season for passenger service. Heathrow remains one of very few international airports serving more than 100 long haul routes, for people, cargo and business to fly across the globe in a single stop.

This October will see British Airways services to Riga and Belgrade commence, whilst Virgin will connect to Dubai after a four-year hiatus. Lufthansa will start serving Salzburg and Friedrichshafen in time for Christmas festivities.

Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye said: ‘It’s great to see so many passengers getting away to grab some summer sun. We’ve got a great range of popular destinations and our teams are delivering excellent service.”
