Hanwha Aerospace and Space South Central to explore UK collaboration
Korean aerospace company Hanwha Aerospace is to join forces with the UK’s regional space cluster (Space South Central)’s partner, the University of Surrey, to explore a collaborative UK relationship.
Under the memorandum of understanding, the parties will “jointly identify suitable projects of common interest that can be supported and developed in both countries,” explained Space South Central.
Among these projects (encompassing a variety of space-based services and satellite launch availability) will be a “series of satellite technical demonstration projects to explore new commercial applications and services,” using the university’s satellite platforms alongside Hanwha’s launch services and Nuri rockets.
“Building on the University of Surrey’s heritage of international co-operation to develop and fly small satellites, this agreement paves the way for exciting new projects,” explained pro-vice-chancellor and executive dean at the University of Surrey Professor Bob Nichol. “Space pioneers from Hanwaha and the Space South Central universities will work together to demonstrate ways to use space peacefully for the good of people, planet and economies”.
