Guangzhou Automobile Group Company (GAC), a Chinese state-owned automobile manufacturer, has unveiled its new flying car brand, Govy, alongside its first compound-wing flying car, the Govy AirJet.
The unveiling took place on 18 December with GAC Group announcing it plans to begin demonstration operations for electric take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles by 2027. These operations are expected to launch in up to three cities within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
GAC also outlined its roadmap for the Govy AirJet, with plans to begin airworthiness certification by 2025. Additionally, it intends to establish production lines, open pre-orders and create a new technology company focused on low -altitude economy businesses.
Standing at 2.3 m tall, the Govy AirJet, is built using over 90% carbon composite materials, making it one-third of the weight of a typical car body. It features GAC’s proprietary electric drive system and lightweight battery assembly technology, delivering a range of more than 200km on a single charge. Future iterations are expected to incorporate GAC’s self-developed solid-state batteries, potentially extending its range to more than 400km.
Inside, the AirJet is configured in a flexible ‘1-1-X’ layout, with the third row offering an adjustable seating layout to accommodate various needs. Design concepts include practical features, such as cup holders, wireless charging, armrests and ambient lighting. Advanced technologies include real-time monitoring, remote diagnosis system, intelligent obstacle avoidance and automatic functionality, supported by an all-round camera and radar perception system to detect and avoid obstacles.
The AirJet complements GAC’s previously unveiled AirCar concept, which has been designed for zero emissions travel needs for distances up to 20km. Together the two vehicles will be integrated into GAC’s Robo-AirTaxi system, providing seamless travel solutions for both ground and air transportation.
