Spirit Airlines sells 23 A320-family aircraft to GA Telesis
October 25, 2024
GA Telesis has finalised an agreement to acquire 23 used Airbus A320ceo and A321ceo aircraft from Spirit Airlines.
The deal, approved by both companies, includes aircraft equipped with V2527-A5 and V2533-A5 Select-One engines and manufactured between 2014 and 2019, marking GA Telesis’ largest acquisition to date of similarly-aged aircraft.
The Spirit Airlines’ sale brings crucial cash flow for the budget carrier, which faces financial challenges amid rising costs and competitive pressures.
However, the move reduces Spirit’s fleet capacity, potentially impacting route availability and limiting growth opportunities in an already difficult operating environment.
Global demand for narrow-body aircraft
The acquisition strengthens GA Telesis’ portfolio and positions the company to meet rising global demand for narrow-body aircraft, it said.
This purchase follows GA Telesis’ recent acquisition of several on-lease aircraft from Avolon, as well as plans to close on over 20 additional aircraft in the coming months.
“We are thrilled to announce this significant acquisition, which adds a large number of highly sought-after Airbus A320ceo and A321ceo aircraft to our portfolio,” said Marc Cho, president of GA Telesis LIFT Group.
“The A320ceo family of aircraft is renowned for its efficiency, performance, and reliability, making it an attractive option for airlines across the world. We are confident these aircraft will provide significant value to our customers as they continue their operations.”
The move comes as a proposed merger between Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines has reportedly been revived.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the two low-cost airlines have recently engaged in preliminary discussions regarding a potential merger; however, these talks are still in the early stages, and it is uncertain whether a deal will materialise.
