As the day drew to a close on day one of FIA 2024, ADS confirmed that £39.3bn worth of deals were announced.

Deals made during day one of FIA 2024 included 163 firm aircraft orders worth a total of £4.6bn to the UK and 28 firm engine orders. The day one deal total further highlights 114 optional aircraft and engine commitments made, with further service agreements included too.

Boeing led the way in terms of order announcements with Korean Air announcing its intent to purchase up to 50 of its widebody aircraft. Meanwhile, Japan Airlines formalised a purchase for 10 Dreamliner 787-9s with options for another 10 jets in a deal that was originally flagged earlier this year. Luxembourg-based carrier Luxair also revealed an order for two 737 MAX-10s and US-based National Airlines placed an order for four 777-200 wide body cargo aircraft.

Airbus quietly closed the day with an MoU from Drukair Royal Bhutan Airlines for three A320neo and two A321XLR aircraft.

Commenting on how the aerospace industry remains buoyant and resilient in spite of challenges, Kevin Craven, CEO at ADS and Chair Farnborough International, said: “The significant and convening power of Farnborough International Airshow makes today’s announcements both unsurprising and very welcome.”

He added: “The UK is home to innovative, ambitious and world-renowned advanced manufacturing businesses both large and small and we are rightly celebrating their impact at the home of British aviation.

“Our aerospace sector delivers £10.9 bn in value to the UK economy and in 2023, UK aerospace exports totalled £20 bn. It is our partnership with our international counterparts that truly makes the UK home to an open, ambitious and innovative industry.”
