Ethiopian Airlines has inaugurated a new passenger route to Sharjah, marking its second UAE gateway and strengthening its ties between Africa and the Middle East.

The four-times-weekly service began on 1 June.

The addition of Sharjah expands the airline’s presence in the Gulf region and offers an alternative entry point to the UAE, complementing its long-standing operations in Dubai.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said: “We are truly delighted to connect our passengers to an additional getaway in the UAE with our new flights to Sharjah.

“We have been connecting the UAE and Africa for nearly five decades now and the new service will help boost the investment, tourism, diplomatic and socioeconomic bonds between the two regions.”

The carrier has operated cargo services to Sharjah for some time, but the launch of scheduled passenger flights is a new initiative.
