Spanish space exploration start-up EOS-X Space is targeting the third quarter of 2025 for its inaugural flights, which will operate from Seville and Abu Dhabi.

EOS-X Space’s pressurised capsules will each be able to carry eight passengers plus one pilot, propelled to the limits of the stratosphere (around 40,000 metres) using a helium balloon. Places will cost between €150,000 and €200,000, estimate the company, which will allow “space tourists to enjoy superb views for five hours”.

Validation tests of the Spaceship capsules by military pilots are set to “take place soon,” an endeavour conducted with the National Institute for Aerospace Technology (INTA). Dependent on the Spanish ministry of defence, the INTA is a public research organisation “responsible or performing scientific research activities and prototypes in its field of knowledge, as well as for providing technological services to companies in the industry”.

By the time of the first passenger flights, EOS-X Space estimates it will have invested more than €230 million in engineering and development across both countries. It is currently in the middle of a $115 million Series D investment round, led by US investment bank FTI Capital Advisor.
