Chinese eVTOL developer EHang is to conduct test flights of its EH126-S  in Brazil, having received an Experimental Flight Authorization Certificate (CAVE) from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC).

In conjunction with local partner and operator Gohobby (Brazil’s largest importer and distributor of drones), upcoming flight test campaigns of the two-seat, pilotless eVTOL will “aim to advance research and development of concept of operations and unmanned aircraft traffic management (UTM) systems and services, ensuring safe and efficient UAM deployment across Brazil,” said EHang. Flight tests will be undertaken in close collaboration with Brazil’s Airspace Control Department (DECEA)

EHang is currently the only eVTOL player worldwide to have a certified craft, having obtained the world’s first type certificate for an unmanned eVTOL from the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in October 2023. This was followed by the award of a production certificate in April 2024, allowing the company to commence full-scale production.

“As for certification of EH216-S pilotless eVTOL in Brazil, ANAC and CAAC are currently in discussion for understanding the regulatory model adopted by the state of design and applicable regulatory frameworks for the operation of this new technology aircraft system in Brazil,” added EHang.

Victoria Xiang, chief operating officer of EHang Europe and Latin America, added she looked forward to the EHang’s first flight in Brazil “in the near future”.
