Low-cost carrier, easyJet, is anticipating a “record summer” and strong second half of the year, having recorded a headline pre-tax loss of £394 million for the six months ending 31 March 2025. The result reflects a modest year-on-year (YoY) improvement.

As the airline moves into the summer season, it expects to see a positive build in demand for flights as well as its holidays division with forward bookings ahead YoY for both Q3 (80%) and Q4 (42%). easyJet Holidays delivered a profit of £44 million (a £13 million increase on last year) with 77% of second-half bookings already secured.

Network growth

The airline has opened three new bases in Southend, Milan Linate and Rome this year and has now revealed plans to launch a base in Newcastle next spring. It has also taken delivery of nine A320neos to support capacity demand this summer. It has also launched over 200 new routes for the financial year to date including mid-range leisure destinations such as Luxor and Cape Verde.

The average sector length rose 6% in H1 2025 compared with H1 2024, while the number of routes served in the winter season increased 22% YoY. Current bookings are supportive of meeting FY25 consensus targets with the airline on track to achieve its medium target of “sustainably generating” more than £1 billion in profit before tax.

Capacity investments

The airline said that despite “naturally requiring some price stimulation,” capacity investments made into longer leisure destinations are driving productivity and utilisation benefits, providing a platform to structurally reduce winter losses and further grow a profitable summer period.

Commenting on the results, Kenton Jarvis, CEO of easyJet said: “We are executing well against our strategy to drive efficiency and enhance our customer experience both in the sky and on the ground. In addition, our commitment to giving customers an even greater choice of flights and holidays will see us continuing to grow both in Europe and the UK, where we will be launching a new base in Newcastle from next spring.”

He also said the airline remains focused on delivering “another record summer this year, expecting to drive strong earnings growth.”
