March 20, 2025

Collins Aerospace, part of RTX, a global aerospace and defence company, that also includes Pratt & Whitney and Raytheon, is expected to lay off 160 employees in April, according to the Iowa’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification system.
A statement from Collins Aerospace, which globally employs around 80,000 people, confirmed the company is “conducting a small reduction of positions.” The lay offs are expected to affect Collins’ local operations at its Cedar Rapids facility in Iowa. According to the Iowa Workforce Development database, Collins employs between 5,000 and 10,000 Iowans and its Avionics and Mission Systems are both based in Cedar Rapids.
“To ensure we are best positioned to address our customers’ greatest needs now and into the future, we are taking actions to reduce costs and optimise our organisation structure globally,” the statement read.
According to Collins, the lay offs will enable the business to “reinvest in high-priority programmes, reduce complexity and increase efficiency to better meet the strong demand for aerospace products.”
The company reported roughly $28 billion in adjusted sales and $4.4 billion in adjusted operating profit in 2024. The layoff date is scheduled for 13 April.
