Farnborough International is celebrating 75 years of the famous airshow with an exclusive blog series from renowned local historian and aviation enthusiast, Peter Cooper.
The three part series, the first of which is published here, celebrates the historic aircraft displays and events that have taken place at Farnborough since 1948.
Highlights from the first article include the participation of the world’s first jet airliner the de Havilland DH.106 Comet 1 and the mighty Bristol 167 Brabazon in 1949; the 10-engine Saunders-Roe SR.45 Princess Flying Boat in 1953; the world-record loop of 22 Hawker Hunter F.6s and a T.7 in 1958; and the debut of the BAC-Aerospatiale Concorde in 1970.
