The British Airline Pilots’ Association (BALPA) has issued a revised message to pilots at a recruitment event this week, saying there are now “green shoots” in the market.
BALPA is attending the Flight Crew Futures event on 10th of October. The event is aimed at current pilots and BALPA says it is seeing batches of external recruitment, largely for experienced pilots, with many airlines opting to rehire the pilots they previously made redundant.
BALPA will give pilots its assessment of the market and to help them access the wealth of bespoke careers advice and resources available to BALPA members.
The Flight Crew Futures event aims to partner pilots with airlines and recruiting agencies who are specifically looking for type rated flight crew to fill their right and left seats.

There will be informative presentations throughout the day, and the ‘drop-in’ format will also include presentations from recruiters. Each will deliver an overview of their current flight crew requirements, salary packages and employment terms and includes BA, TUI and easyJet.
BALPA’s head of career services, Wendy Pursey, said: “We are delighted to be attending the Flight Crew Futures event with a message that we are seeing some positivity in the market for the first time since Covid-19.
“It is early days and with so many experienced pilots still looking for work, the competition is tough, but BALPA has a range of bespoke advice and resources to help pilots on every step of their career. We look forward to seeing people at the event.”
