AviAlliance sells £235 million stake in AGS Airports

Airport operator and investor, AviAlliance, has sold a minority stake in AGS Airports to asset management firm, Blackstone. The 22% stake was acquired for £235 million.
AviAlliance acquired the airport group, which operates Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton from Ferrovial and Macquarie earlier this year for £1.53 billion and will remain the major shareholder with a 78% stake.
Greg Blank, Blackstone Infrastructure’s CEO stated that transportation remains a key focus area for Blackstone, given the ongoing global growth in leisure travel. “AGS has access to one of the most diversified airline mixes of any major UK airport, and the company’s recent capital improvements aimed at accommodating large aircraft pave the way for new routes and higher traffic growth,” he said.
The three airports combined handle over 11 million passengers annually, with Gerhard Schroeder, managing director of AviAlliance saying that the partnership with Blackstone will benefit AGS, its management and employees as well as other stakeholders at the three air transport hubs. “Together we will further strengthen the position of AGS in both Scotland and the wider United Kingdom,” he said.
Blackstone’s investment in AGS Airports is part of a broader wave of opportunities across the UK at airports including London City, Birmingham and Bristol airports. In addition, Ardian finalised its purchase of a 22.6 % stake in London Heathrow at the end of last year, while prospects for Doncaster Sheffield Airport are promising with the UK government supporting plans to reopen the airport and transform it into South Yorkshire Airport City.
