Australia’s largest independent regional airline has entered voluntary administration, with Rex Express Holdings and a number of its subsidiaries (including the Rex Group) cancelling all domestic flights between major cities.

Although regional routes are still running as scheduled (aboard Rex’s Saab 340 fleet), with Rex noting it is still taking bookings for the service, 737 operations have ceased immediately.

Voluntary administrator Sam Freeman explained that “the Rex group has a long and proud history of servicing regional and remote communities across Australia, and the administration process provides the opportunity to continue that legacy”.

Virgin Australia has offered existing customers impacted by the cancellations the opportunity to transfer their ticket free of charge to the 3 overlapping Virgin Australia services, with eligible customers to be re-accomodated “as soon as practicable to their original time of travel,” explains Rex.
