ANAC increases monitoring at Voepass in wake of fatal crash
The National Civil Aviation Agency of Brazil (ANAC) has met with domestic airline Voepass to implement ongoing monitoring efforts, following the fatal crash of Flight 2283 in São Paolo on 9 August.
“In the current post-aircraft accident context, and considering aspects of human factors, the Agency understands that it is important to intensify ongoing surveillance and monitoring of the service provided by the company, establishing parameters to avoid abnormalities in operations,” stated ANAC.
It added that as part of routine operations, air operators (including Voepass) “must constantly send performance data of their fleet to ANAC, which includes possible mechanical interruptions, aircraft unavailability or difficulties in service”.
Authorities are still investigating the crash of Voepass’ Flight 2283 which came down in the suburban area of Vinhedo, claiming the lives of all 48 passengers and four crewmembers on board. Video appears to show the ATR-72-500 twin engine turboprop entering a flat spin before plunging to the ground.
In an earlier statement, Voepass commented that the airline “follow absolutely all protocols, which attest to the compliance of [its] procedures and equipment with the highest standards of international aviation”. It added that “speculation about technical repairs carried out in the past only serves to add to the suffering and immense pain of the families… involved in this tragic accident”.
Voepass concluded that “the company also reaffirms its commitment to fully collaborate with the competent authorities throughout the investigation process so that the causes of the accident are clarified as soon as possible”.
