American Airlines is set to launch a special ‘Flagship’ livery on one of its Boeing 777‑300 aircraft next month, celebrating the airline’s centenary.

The aircraft, registered N735AT, will feature a design that incorporates a classic silver livery with flashes of oranges, referencing American’s early years.

The livery draws on American’s Silver Eagle paint, currently applied to more than 1,600 aircraft across its fleet.

An orange lightning bolt – first introduced nearly nine decades ago on the Douglas DC-3 – stretches along both sides of the aircraft.

The aircraft will carry the name “Flagship DFW”, echoing the DC-3 naming convention that celebrated key cities in the network.

The new livery also includes an eagle roundel near the rear of the fuselage.

“American has thoughtfully chosen a design that evokes our rich history while looking ahead to our next 100 years,” said Ron DeFeo, American’s chief communications officer.

“Throughout American’s history, ‘Flagship’ has always been recognised as our premium travel experience. Our renewed focus on the customer experience is making premium travel better than ever across all aspects of our customers’ travel journeys.

“Painting the original Flagship design on our Flagship aircraft is a powerful way to honour that legacy while embracing the future.”

Upgrading American Airlines’ cabins

The livery will accompany an interior refresh on the 777‑300 fleet, featuring 70 Flagship Suite business class seats, 44 Premium Economy seats, and enhanced economy cabin products.

Flagship Suite seats, first introduced this summer on Boeing 787‑9 aircraft, offer privacy doors, wireless charging, and a chaise lounge seating option with adjustable headrests.

Premium economy cabins will include wireless charging and upgraded ergonomics, while economy travellers will get from 4K QLED screens.
