Plane spotters, or rather trackers, are set to be out in force to follow American Airlines inaugural flight from Dallas to Brisbane according to Flightradar24 from 27-28 October.

Marking the airline’s longest nonstop flight by distance and the longest flight on Brisbane Airport’s destination map, the inaugural service will land at Brisbane Airport on Monday 28 October having taken off from Dallas-Fort Worth on 26 October. Flightradar24 is predicting that it will be one of the most tracked flights in the world, while Brisbane Airport will livestream the landing of the Boeing 787-9 from 4.45am local time on Monday. A special surprise is planned for the arrival that is expected to set Brisbane apart from its competitors in the airport livestreaming world.

Ian Petchenik director of communications at Flightradar24 revealed people from around the world “are especially keen to watch the livestream of the landing” as they tune in to follow the aircraft’s progress from Dallas-Fort Worth to Brisbane.

Twenty competition winners will also be on-site at the Australian hub to see the aircraft’s arrival in person.

A deal that’s “bigger than Texas”

Speaking earlier this year at the announcement of the new daily service, which will run initially through 29 March 2025, Australia’s minister for transport and tourism, Hon. Michael Healy thanked American Airlines “for bringing two cowboy cultures together.”

Further underlining the importance of the route, Cameron Dick, deputy premier treasure and minister for trade and investment described the deal to connect the two destinations as “bigger than Texas.”

He said in addition to shortening travel time, “there will also be 18 tonnes of cargo space in those planes flying back across the Pacific. That’s great for our agricultural industries, our tech industries and our electrical manufacturers.”

With Brisbane celebrating considerable international route development in 2024 so far, Peter Doherty, the airport’s media and communications manager, noted that the airport’s popularity amongst aviation enthusiasts has also soared. He emphasised the airport’s rich aviation heritage as he noted that visitors can see an A380 in one moment and the next, a Royal Flying Doctor King Air, or the largest remaining Fokker fleet in the world, courtesy of Alliance Airlines.

Surprise in store

For the upcoming arrival of the American Airlines flight, the airport will place cameras beside the runway and taxiways, providing aviation enthusiasts with a prime front row seat of the landing.

Commenting that airport livestreaming is gaining in popularity, Doherty added that viewers are in for a treat when they tune in to watch the livestreaming of the inaugural arrival. “We have a surprise planned which if we can pull it off technically, will set this show apart in the airport livestreaming world.”
