American Airlines gears up for centennial, introducing a new logo for 100 years

On April 15, 2026, the airline will officially turn 100, commemorating a journey that began with a single mail flight from St. Louis to Chicago and grew into one of the largest global carriers in the world.

American Airlines is gearing up for a milestone few carriers have reached: its centenary. On April 15, 2026, the airline will mark 100 years since its first mail flight from St. Louis to Chicago, a journey that has grown into one of the world’s largest global networks.

To build anticipation, American has launched a centennial video featuring archival footage, historic images, and snapshots of its modern fleet and people. The film kicks off a year-long campaign reflecting on the airline’s past while looking toward its future.

It has also revealed a new logo, and is making preparations for a year of celebrations.

American Airlines celebrates 100 years

“American is proud to be an airline known for its legacy of firsts,” said Robert Isom, American’s Chief Executive Officer. “As we get ready for our centennial, we celebrate the strong history of our iconic airline and brand while knowing we’ve built an airline that will continue to move our customers and company forward for the next 100 years.”

The airline is also unveiling a centennial logo that incorporates its existing brand identity with an infinity symbol, to be rolled out across merchandise, digital platforms, airport lounges, inflight materials, and sports partnerships.

American highlights its history of innovation as part of the campaign, from introducing the Douglas DC-3 to passenger service, to opening the first airport lounge, and launching the industry’s first frequent flyer programme.

From first flight to largest fleet

Today, American operates one of the world’s largest fleets and an expansive international network, while also investing heavily in sustainability and technology.

The centennial year, according to the airline, will serve both as a reflection on its past and a look toward future priorities.

The centennial theme, Forever Forward, signals both reflection on its history and focus on future priorities. While specific events have not yet been detailed, commemorations are planned throughout 2026 in the air and on the ground.

Premium partnerships for American Airlines’ 100th birthday

As it prepares to mark 100 years, American is also unveiling new premium offerings. For the first time, the airline has partnered with Champagne Bollinger.

Bollinger’s Special Cuvée will be introduced across American’s Flagship lounges and served in Flagship First and Business cabins on select international flights.

“At American, our focus is on elevating the experience for our customers and we’re excited to announce this partnership with Champagne Bollinger,” said Heather Garboden, American’s Chief Customer Officer. “A House as storied as Bollinger is the perfect fit for American on the eve of our centennial year.”

The champagne will debut immediately at lounges in Dallas-Fort Worth, Miami, and Chicago, with rollouts planned for Los Angeles and Philadelphia.

Onboard service will begin with flights to and from Paris-Charles de Gaulle before expanding across the airline’s long-haul international network.
