Air Wisconsin Airlines (ZW), the sole operator of the CRJ200 in the United States, has announced the termination of its regional capacity agreement with American Airlines (AA).

Under the current arrangement, Air Wisconsin operates flights exclusively for American Airlines under the American Eagle brand.

However, as of April 2025, the partnership will evolve into a codeshare and interline agreement, ending its role as a dedicated regional partner for American.

This transition represents a pivot for Air Wisconsin as it redefines its role within the US aviation market.

Air Wisconsin’s fleet of sixty 50-seat CRJ-200 aircraft is well-suited to serve markets under the Essential Air Service (EAS) – a US government programme enacted to guarantee that small communities.

“This strategic shift underscores our adaptability and commitment to delivering reliable, customised air travel solutions where they are most needed,” said Robert Binns, president and CEO of Air Wisconsin.

“As we diversify into EAS and grow our charter operations, we remain committed to delivering safe, efficient, and quality service to every community and customer we serve.”
