Air New Zealand has launched a new online Airports loyalty experience, described as the first phase of its planned improvements to the frequent flyer scheme, with further updates to be announced next year.

Immediate changes available now include “a more modern look and feel after login,” the ability to share Airpoints Dollars with up to ten different people within New Zealand, and the simplification of tier review dates. “Over the coming 12 months Airpoints members will have more earning power with more partners, more rewards and a new tier,” explained Air New Zealand chief digital officer Nikhil Ravishankar.

During a scheduled maintenance period, the airline has used the time to “first invest in the  technology to be able to create these enhancements for [its] customers,” which will form the basis of subsequent upgrades – including new benefits for existing members.

Airpoints Dollars (earned directly with Air New Zealand, Star Alliance airlines or other partners) currently have a four-year expiry period, and can be redeemed for a variety of products and services. Flights with the carrier or qualifying partners also earn Status Points, which tally up towards Airpoints membership tiers.
