Aegean Airlines buys 2 Airbus A321XLR, wants to fly them to India by next March

July 17, 2025

AEGEAN Airlines has ordered two new Airbus A321XLR aircraft to its fleet, with delivery expected in December 2025 and January 2026.
These long-range aircraft, with a flying capability of up to 10.5 hours, will support the airline’s plans to expand its network. First up is India, beginning with flights to New Delhi in March 2026 and Mumbai in May 2026.
“The A321XLR and LR aircraft mark the beginning of a new chapter for AEGEAN,” says Eftichios Vassilakis, AEGEAN Chairman. “It brings new possibilities for growth but also new options for our passengers and the connectivity of our country.”
How the Airbus A321XLR will change AEGEAN
AEGEAN has been renewing its fleet of Airbus aircraft with the addition of the neo family of jets. So far, it has taken 21 A320neo and 15 A321neo from the Airbus orderbook.
These two XLRs are not merely conversions from the order backlog, but fresh, new aircraft orders. The airline’s total A320neo family commitment now stands at 60 aircraft, with 36 already delivered.

Adding the A321XLR gives AEGEAN another 700 nautical miles – approximately two hours flying time – over the A321LR. This allows AEGEAN to reach further from its Greek home, and immediately opens new routes such as its target launch destinations in India.
“We have a strong preference for the larger-capacity and extended-range version offered by the A321neo type,” says Dimitris Gerogiannis, AEGEAN’s CEO. “It will soon represent two-thirds of our Airbus fleet.”
AEGAN targets Delhi and Mumbai in 2026
AEGEAN plans to operate five weekly flights to New Delhi beginning in March 2026. Following this, it will launch three weekly flights to Mumbai in May 2026.
Details of the flight schedules and ticket sales will be announced by the end of September 2025. These will be the airline’s first direct routes to India.
Following along are more A321LRs, ordered earlier in the year, which are expected to arrive in 2027 and 2028. With these aircraft, AEGEAN plans to connect more India destinations such as Bangalore, and is also looking at Seychelles, Maldives, Nairobi, Almaty and Lagos.

Configured for long-haul comfort, the new A321neo XLR aircraft will feature 138 seats, including 24 Business Class Suites with fully lie-flat beds, aisle access, and enhanced privacy.
Economy passengers will also benefit from updated cabin features, such as increased personal space, 4K inflight entertainment, satellite Wi-Fi, charging ports, and larger overhead bins.
The A321XLR entered service with Iberia in October 2024 and has since been delivered to several customers including Qantas, Aer Lingus and Wizz Air.
