Innovative aviation and aerospace company 2Excel Aviation is to expand into Ireland, with a newly-formed subsidiary to deliver search and rescue (SAR) and other coast guard services.

The new setup will see 2Excel Ireland provide fixed-wing Coast Guard services for Bristow Ireland, following the award to Bristow of a ten year-contract to deliver SAR and other aviation services to the Irish Coast Guard (IRCG).

To deliver the contract, the company is targeting a brand-new Irish Air Operator Certificate (AOC), allowing 2Excel to operate two specially modified King Airs from Shannon Airport. Alongside providing SAR and environmental monitoring services, the aircraft will also provide ‘top cover’ support for six specialist AW189 helicopters operated by Bristow Ireland.

“This is a very exciting development for 2Excel and an opportunity to replicate our service, skills, and expertise, already proven in the SAR environment,” commented Eugene Quinley, newly appointed Accountable Manager for 2Excel Ireland. “With aircraft modifications that have been designed and engineered to our own specifications, we are also pleased to be contributing our successful partnership with Bristow in providing critical life-saving services and environmental monitoring at sea”.

In August 2023, Bristow Ireland and the Irish Department of Transport signed a ten-year contract for the former to provide rotary and fixed-wing aviation services, with options to extend for a further three years. Bristow will begin transitioning to the new contract in the fourth quarter of 2024, with 2Excel adding that the first new helicopter is due to enter service later this year.
