Air Cambodia places 1st Boeing order for up to 20 737 MAX jets at Singapore Airshow

Air Cambodia has placed its largest-ever single-aisle aircraft order, signing an agreement with Boeing for up to 20 Boeing 737 MAX jets—a fleet move that will also make the 737 MAX the first Boeing aircraft type operated by a Cambodian airline.
Announced at the Singapore Airshow, Boeing said the Southeast Asian carrier has finalised a firm order for 10 Boeing 737-8 aircraft, with an option for 10 more. The airline completed the order in December 2025, and Boeing confirmed the deal had previously appeared as unidentified on the manufacturer’s Orders and Deliveries.
A new Boeing customer — and a new chapter for Cambodia’s flag carrier
The deal marks Air Cambodia’s first purchase of Boeing aircraft, as the airline moves to modernise and expand its narrowbody fleet.
“The 737-8 gives Air Cambodia the ideal combination of range, capacity and fuel efficiency to support our next phase of growth,” said Dr David Zhan, CEO of Air Cambodia. He added that the investment will allow the airline to launch direct services to key markets across North and Southeast Asia, while offering “competitively priced travel for passengers” and creating local jobs and training opportunities.
Boeing said the aircraft will support the airline’s plan to grow its network across high-demand routes in Asia without relying on widebody aircraft by combining longer range with lower operating costs.
The Boeing aircraft can carry up to 178 passengers in a two-class configuration for a range of up to 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km), with a 20% reduction in fuel use and emissions compared with the aircraft it replaces.
Air Cambodia’s current fleet and network
Air Cambodia currently operates nine single-aisle and regional jets, including:
- 6 ATR-72 turboprops
- 2 Airbus A320-200s
- 1 Airbus A321-200
The airline currently serves four domestic destinations and 14 international destinations in seven countries, including services to Vietnam, India, Thailand, China, Japan and Hong Kong.
With the new 737 MAX order, the carrier aims to renew its fleet and build capacity for additional routes, especially as Southeast Asia continues to expand as a high-growth aviation market.

Boeing said the deal was part of broader growth across Southeast Asia’s aviation sector.
“We are proud to welcome Air Cambodia as our newest 737 MAX customer and look forward to partnering with them to introduce the versatile and reliable 737-8 to the Kingdom of Cambodia,” said Brad McMullen, Boeing senior vice president of Commercial Sales and Marketing.
He added that Boeing is committed to supporting aviation growth “in Cambodia and throughout the region,” as Air Cambodia strengthens connections across Asia.
Southeast Asia demand: Boeing forecasts nearly 5,000 new aircraft over 20 years
Boeing used the Singapore Airshow announcement to underline the scale of long-term demand in the region. According to Boeing’s Commercial Market Outlook, Southeast Asian carriers will need nearly 5,000 new aeroplanes over the next 20 years, with single-aisle jets making up more than 80% of deliveries.
