WestJet unveils new Boeing 737 cabin interiors with Premium, extended comfort seating and free Starlink WiFi

September 25, 2025

WestJet is refurbishing its Boeing 737-8 MAX and 737-800 narrowbody fleet interiors with new cabins that feature Premium seating, expanded Extended Comfort options, and updated Economy seats with enhanced comfort features. The airline says the refresh will create a more consistent on-board experience and broaden the range of choices for travellers.

The upgrade also pairs with the rollout of its new in-flight connectivity powered by Starlink, delivered through a strategic partnership with Canadian telecommunications company TELUS.
WestJet introduces a modernised cabin with more seat choices
The redesign introduces a dedicated Premium cabin with 12 seats, modelled after those in WestJet’s flagship Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners. Passengers in Premium will see ergonomically contoured cushions, reclining backs and large, four-way adjustable headrests.

Directly behind, a larger Extended Comfort section offers 36 seats with additional legroom, separated from Economy by a cabin divider. In Economy, new ultra-slim seats feature improved cushion and back support, adjustable headrests and integrated device holders, along with access to in-seat power. A fixed recline design helps preserve personal space.
“The cabin has been thoughtfully designed to offer WestJet’s welcoming service at every budget,” said Samantha Taylor, WestJet Executive Vice-President and Chief Experience Officer. “It reflects our commitment to elevating every aspect of the travel experience and meeting guest demand for a broader range of product offerings.”

The interior will also feature updated lavatories and galleys.
Free high-speed WiFi for WestJet Rewards members
The cabin refresh comes as WestJet begins deploying its new in-flight WiFi, sponsored by TELUS and powered by SpaceX’s Starlink satellite constellation. The service offers high-speed, low-latency internet that allows every passenger on board to stream video, shop, ,work or game in flight with performance comparable to ground connections.
“Through our strategic partnership with TELUS, we are setting a new standard in the Canadian airline industry by offering Starlink’s revolutionary in-flight connectivity, and thanks to TELUS, we are able to bring this in-flight experience to WestJet Rewards guests for free,” said John Weatherill, WestJet Group Executive Vice-President and Chief Commercial Officer.

WestJet will become the largest North American carrier and the first commercial Boeing 737 operator to equip its fleet with Starlink-powered connectivity. WestJet expects to complete the installation of WiFi on its narrowbody aircraft by the end of 2025. The airline will equip its widebody aircraft with Starlink connections by the end of 2026.
Access will be free to all WestJet Rewards members, with customers able to sign up for the loyalty program at no cost before their flight. TELUS and WestJet also plan to unveil additional perks for Rewards members and TELUS customers in the coming months.
“The future of in-flight connectivity and entertainment is here, and we’re excited to enter this long-term partnership with WestJet,” said Zainul Mawji, Executive Vice-President and President, TELUS Consumer Solutions.
WestJet adds more seats for lower fares
Ultra-slim seat designs in economy allow WestJet to fit an additional row into the cabin compared to its previous layout. The airline says this helps reduce the cost per seat, maintaining affordability while offering travellers a broader range of seating and amenity levels. Passengers in the Economy cabin will find a range of seat pitches, with less space at the back and more space near the front.

“Whether guests opt for Premium seating with extra amenities and legroom, or the most affordable ticket with less space, we’re excited to introduce this range of products,” Taylor said.
The first updated aircraft will enter service later this year, with a full rollout planned across the 737-800 and MAX 8 fleets by the end of 2025.
