Airbus to modernise Polish C295M fleet
December 17, 2024
Airbus Defence and Space has signed a contract with the Polish Armament Agency for the modernisation of the nation’s C295M fleet, which will commence in 2025.
The €102.7 million agreement – signed at Airbus’ Defence and Space headquarters in Warsaw – aims to upgrade Poland’s entire fleet of C295M tactical transport airport by 2033, thirty years after the type first entered service with the Polish Air Force. Two will undergo modernisation in Spain, while Airbus’ Warsaw MRO facilities will “play a key role in the upgrade” of the remaining 14 Polish C295 aircraft in operation, explains Airbus.
It is understood that the aircraft’s legacy avionics will be replaced with the Collins Aerospace Pro Line Fusion digital suite, augmenting situational awareness and increasing compatibility with modern mission management systems. Existing communications capabilities will also be enhanced.
Poland was the first export customer for the C295M, ordering 17 units in 2001. The surviving 16 are based at Kraków-Balice Air Base and operated by the 13th Aviation Squadron.
