Bombardier Global 7500 “time machine” smashes 75 speed records
November 25, 2024
Described by its manufacturers as “the ultimate record-setting time machine,” Bombardier’s Global 7500 continues to rack up an impressive collection of speed record performances – with the Mach 0.925-capable business jet having recently established new flight times between a number of “essential city pairs”.
Testament to the aircraft’s “impressive performance attributes” – including its unique ‘Smooth Flex Wing’ system of slats and flaps that maximises aerodynamic efficiency and boosts performance – the Global 7500 has sped between yet more cities in record time. New records include Tokyo to Hong Kong in just three hours and 40 minutes, New Delhi to Tokyo in just seven hours and Los Angeles to Auckland in under 12 hours – making the most of the aircraft’s baseline range of 7,700 nautical miles.
“What’s even more impressive about these records is they are flown as part of routine aircraft movements, including some missions that have passengers aboard,” explained executive vice president of aircraft sales and Bombardier Defense Jean-Christophe Gallagher. “We have on more than one occasion been thrilled to have customers and prospects be aboard for the record setting city pairs”.
The Global 7500 fleet currently totals close to 200 aircraft and has accumulated over 200,000 flying hours – including the most recent record-breaking city pair timings. “These blazing new speed records continue to show that the Global 7500 is the proven, undisputed leader in its category and the business aircraft with amazing performance,” concluded Gallagher.
However, the manufacturer is showing no signs of slowing down, with manufacturing for its Global 8000 already underway. With entry into service anticipated in next year, this enhanced flagship model will boast a top speed of Mach 0.94 – the fastest civilian aircraft since Concorde. For existing Global 7500 customers who feel ‘the need for speed,’ an upgrade is currently available (including nudging up the platform’s top speed from Mach 0.925 to 0.94) through Bombardier’s aircraft service centres.
