British Airways experienced an IT outage overnight, disrupting flights worldwide.
The issue resulted in grounded flights on Monday evening, but was solved overnight, and schedules have largely returned to normal, BA said.
“We’ve apologised to customers for delays to their flights and ensured they were able to reach their destinations as planned,” the airline said in a statement.
This incident adds to BA’s history of IT challenges, which have caused similar disruptions.
The airline has faced persistent challenges with its ageing IT infrastructure, often resulting in flight disruptions and passenger inconvenience. Attempts to modernise have been hampered by integration issues with legacy systems.
However the airline has been investing £6.5 billion to improve its operation, including new aircraft, new cabins, new catering, new lounges, WiFi, and new routes.
