ITA Airways has re-opened ticket sales for a new direct route between Rome Fiumicino and Tripoli Mitiga in Libya, set to launch on January 12, 2025.

This service will operate twice weekly, with flights departing from Rome every Thursday and Sunday at 9:15 a.m. and arriving in Tripoli at 12:10 p.m. Return flights will depart Tripoli at 1:05 p.m., landing in Rome at 2:10 p.m.

Airlines had suspended flights to Libya for several years due to security concerns. Now, with improved safety at Tripoli’s coastal Mitiga Airport, ITA Airways has resumed direct flights, signaling renewed confidence in both the route’s stability and demand.

Andrea Benassi, General Manager of ITA Airways, highlighted the airline’s efforts in collaboration with the Italian government and ENAC to reestablish regular flights between Italy and Libya.

“ITA Airways has worked tirelessly, in close cooperation with the Prime Minister’s Office, the Government, and ENAC, to establish regular connections between Italy and Libya,” said Benassi.

“Libya is a highly important market, and this route will enhance trade between our nations while supporting the many Italian businesses operating in the North African country”
