Bain Capital investment will help FDH Aero accelerate growth
FDH Aero is preparing to accelerate its growth following a new investment from Bain Capital, with chief executive Ian Walsh pointing to significant opportunities across the aerospace and defence supply chain.
Speaking to Aerospace Global News at the Farnborough International Airshow, Walsh said the partnership would give FDH Aero access to the capital needed to invest in its next phase of expansion.
“It’s a very exciting time for us at FDH,” he said. “They see in us what we see in ourselves, which is that we have a very strong company with tonnes of potential, and they have the capital necessary for us to invest to get to the next level.”
Bain Capital completed its acquisition of FDH Aero from Audax Private Equity in June 2026. Walsh described the transaction as a planned step in the company’s development and said Bain would be a strong partner as it looks to build on its recent growth.
“Partnering with Bain, we’re going to accelerate our growth even more,” he added.
FDH Aero targets $30 billion market
FDH Aero operates between aerospace component manufacturers and their customers, helping companies source the specialised parts needed to support aircraft production and maintenance.
Walsh said its competitive advantage lies in combining technical expertise with an extensive geographical presence and close customer relationships. The company sources thousands of individual parts for customers, with reliability, quality and on-time delivery forming a critical part of its service.
“We fulfil a very necessary need in the value chain between suppliers and customers,” he explained. “It’s a very high-touch level of service, and we do it better than anybody.”
Looking ahead, Walsh estimated that FDH Aero’s addressable market is worth around $30 billion, leaving substantial room for both organic growth and further expansion.
That opportunity includes established aerospace manufacturers as well as emerging companies developing new aircraft and technologies. Many of those businesses are seeking supply chain partners during the early stages of platform development, potentially allowing FDH Aero to become embedded in their programmes from the outset.
Marking his 25th visit to Farnborough, Walsh said the increasing pace of aerospace innovation was particularly visible at the 2026 show.
“Whether it’s crewed or uncrewed, it’s new platforms, products and technology,” he said. “People want to fly further, faster and lighter, and things are becoming more complicated and more electrified. Those are the kinds of parts that we provide.”
