Marshall celebrates on-time completion of 1,200 auxiliary fuel tanks for Boeing P-8 Poseidon

Marshall has successfully completed its 1,200th auxiliary fuel tank in support of Boeing’s global P-8 Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft programme, marking a significant milestone since the start of the contract.

Marshall’s Aerostructures team has decades of expertise designing and providing solutions to extend the range of a variety of civil and military aircraft types, and builds all of the auxiliary fuel tanks for the Boeing P-8A Poseidon at its Cambridge works. The auxiliary fuel tanks significantly extend aircraft flight range, giving operators additional time to complete the mission before returning to base.

The tanks are assembled in ship-sets of six (each P-8A being fitted with six tanks) using the latest in aviation technology.

Working in a state-of-the-art facility, the Aerostructures team has implemented a pulse production line running from receipt of parts and box build through to inspection and packaging.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Aerostructures team, a number of continuous improvement initiatives have been put in place to fully optimise efficiency while prioritising on-time completion and high-quality outputs.

The team’s proven track record, with 100% of tanks completed on time, solidifies Marshall’s position as a top supplier for Boeing.

Lucy Skerritt, Director Aerostructures, at Marshall said that: “We are proud to have built 1,200 fuel tanks in support of Boeing’s P-8 programme over the last 15 years. This milestone demonstrates our ability to maintain an efficient production line which consistently prioritises high quality and on-time completion.”
