Leonardo and the Toyama Prefectural Police celebrate 1,000 lives saved

February 27, 2025
Leonardo Helicopters (and its predecessor AgustaWestland) is very active in the Japanese law enforcement market having delivered twin-engined AW109 Power, GrandNew and AW139 helicopters – and even a single AW101 acquired in 1998 for the Tokyo Metropolitan Police (though this was donated to the Aichi Museum of Flight in 2019).
AgustaWestland helicopters are operated by the Prefectural Police departments in the Chiba, Hokkaido, Nagano, Miyagi, Niigata and Osaka prefectures, as well as Toyama.
Prefectural police forces are prefecture-level law enforcement agencies responsible for policing, law enforcement, and public security within their respective prefectures of Japan, but come under the central oversight and control of the National Police Agency. The Toyama Prefectural Police operate in a mountainous region that is popular with hikers, making search and rescue an important priority for the force.
To mark this milestone for the Toyama Prefectural Police, Daniele Alzetta, Leonardo Helicopters VP of Sales for Asia-Pacific Rim, presented a commemorative plaque to the Chief of the Prefectural Police, reaffirming Leonardo’s commitment to supporting rescue operations in Toyama and to enhancing customer operations.
