KLM and Transavia break ground on shared maintenance hub at schiphol

April 12, 2025

Work has begun on a redevelopment project that will bring KLM and Transavia’s aircraft maintenance operations together for the first time under one roof.
The start of construction for Transavia’s new workshop in Hangar 10 took place on April 7, with the section dedicated to KLM’s E&M Tech Center scheduled to begin later this year.
Located at Schiphol-East, the project will support fleet renewal, particularly with the introduction of new Airbus aircraft.
“The start of the construction of the KLM E&M Tech Center and the Transavia Greenbase is an important milestone. This redevelopment symbolizes our joint commitment to innovation and efficiency in the aviation industry,” said Sylca Vellinga, VP Real Estate & Facility Contracting.
“We have literally and figuratively laid the new foundation for an energy-efficient hangar and a modern working environment for colleagues working on the maintenance of the new Airbus aircraft for KLM and Transavia.
“Fleet renewal does not stop with the purchase of new aircraft. It also requires the renewal of our hangars and retraining for the colleagues working here. We are working constructively with the construction consortium Visser Smit Bouw and Croon Wolters Dros and looking forward to good progress in delivering this hangar in the course of 2026.”
Originally built in the 1960s, Hangar 10 spans 14,500 square metres and no longer meets modern requirements. The redevelopment will not only overhaul the hangar itself but also add two new office buildings for both Transavia and KLM, bringing the total footprint of the site to 27,000 square metres.
The new facility will be KLM Group’s first gas-free hangar at Schiphol-East.
