New Year’s resolution: ITA Airways Airbus A330ceos to retire as aircraft deliveries pick up
December 28, 2025
ITA Airways’ final Airbus A330-200 in service may not be active for very long. According to schedule data from aviation analytics firm Cirium, the company has scheduled the final flight for the aircraft at the end of the month.
This comes as next-generation Airbus A330neo deliveries pick up, reducing the company’s reliance on older aircraft such as the A330-200.
ITA Airways has wanted to retire the plane for some time now, initially scheduled its withdrawal in October 2025. For one reason or another, it extended the type’s operation – most likely due to aircraft delivery delays.
ITA Airways’ final Airbus A330-200 flight
The A330-200 is currently scheduled to operate its final flight with ITA Airways on 31 December 2026. If all goes to plan, this will be a flight connecting Boston Logan with Rome’s Fiumicino Airport.

This will most likely be flown by the carrier’s last remaining active A330-200, registered EI-EJH. The 15-year-old plane is currently operating on flights to Delhi, New York-JFK and Boston.

The airline’s remaining A330ceos have been progressively withdrawn from service. The most recent operated its last flight on 15 November from Rio de Janeiro.

Where did ITA Airways’ A330ceos fly?
The new year will bring about a new generation of A330 flying, exclusively made up of the A330-900.
While the company has not confirmed this information just yet, its booking website does not show any A330ceos flying in the new year. Instead, the A330-900 is shown for all routes on which the A330ceo typically flew.
This month, the aircraft is flying 11 flights to Boston, 9 to New York-JFK and 5 to Delhi, Cirium data shows.
All daily flights on the route to Boston, for example, show the Airbus A330-900 listed for all flights from 1 January.

Historically, the airline deployed the type on flights to Rio de Janeiro, São Paolo, Dubai and Miami. All of these destinations were switched away from the A330ceo last month, coinciding with the retirements of EI-EJG and EJP.
Toronto and Washington were last flown by the -200 in October.
Delayed fleet renewal prompts A330-200 service extension
As noted by The Flight Club, aircraft deliveries for ITA’s A330-900s stalled for quite some time. Between July 2024 and November 2025, the airline did not receive a single example.
The silence was broken on 28 November, when the carrier’s 12th aircraft was delivered to its Rome Fiumicino base. The following day, it was put to service on a flight to Rio de Janeiro.
The A330-200s therefore served to maintain the carrier’s schedule in the face of delayed aircraft deliveries. It is worth noting that this likely also concerns the A350-900 fleet, which has also suffered from delivery delays.

The A330ceos were meant to be retired by October 2025 – though this was likely planned for much earlier but quietly extended. It has five A330-900s still on order.
The neos are becoming increasingly important for the airline. In 2023, Pope Francis flew on ITA Airways’ A330neo to COP28.
