Aircraft developer Aura Aero has surpassed 650 pre-orders for its ERA hybrid-electric aircraft.

During the Paris Air Show, the company took new commitments from five customers for the low-carbon platform, taking the order backlog to a total of more than $10 billion.

“The trust our customers place in us confirms the existence of a real market for this type of aircraft,” says Jérémy Caussade, President and co-founder of AURA AERO. “ERA is designed to reconnect people in regions where aviation remains essential for accessibility — while playing a key role in decarbonising air transport and revitalising regional aviation.”

Who are the new customers for the ERA hybrid-electric aircraft?

Announced during Paris Air Show, Aura Aero’s new customers are:

  • Marathon Airlines: A Greek ACMI airline made a 20 aircraft firm order, with options for a further 20
  • Solyu: A South Korean low-carbon lessor signed for 20 firm aircraft orders plus 20 options
  • JumpAir Airlines: A Lithuanian charter airline made a firm order for 10 with 10 options
  • Safarilink: This Kenyan regional airline ordered four and signed for a further two on option
  • Undisclosed: An unnamed European customer made a firm order for three and a further three options

As well as securing new customers for its commercial aircraft platform, Aura Aero signed an agreement with UK defence company Babcock to offer next generation electric training aircraft with aerobatic capabilities.

The partnership with Babcock covers technical, logistical, training and support services, and combines Aura’s work in electric aviation with Babcock’s experience in pilot training.

The collaboration will deliver a solution based on the platform of Aura Aero’s INTEGRAL aircraft, a training aircraft with advanced avionics and digital systems to record flight data and provide detailed post-flight analysis of pilot and aircraft parformance.

“By introducing the all-electric INTEGRAL E into their fleet, the armed forces can halve the operating costs for most missions, while beginning its transition towards decarbonisation,” says Caussade.

Aura Aero also launches a drone

Keenly keeping the announcements flowing on its home turf, Aura Aero revealed it will launch a military drone that is based on the ERA platform.

The Enbata drone is targeted to meet the needs for Europe’s Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) drone. It bridges the gap between small tactical UAVs and larger platforms like the MQ-9 Reaper.

Supported by the French Ministry of Defense and the DGA, ENBATA is entering its first development phase, with a target first flight by the end of 2026.
