Signature Aviation is to install electric charging infrastructure across its network of over 200 private aviation terminals, giving eVTOL developer Archer access to key US hubs as early as the end of 2025.

As outlined in the agreement inked by Archer and Signature, the collaboration will identify “initial day one opportunities” for launching air taxi services with Archer’s Midnight craft, including from “key United Airlines hubs” of Newark International and Chicago O’Hare airports. This will be made possible through the installation of Beta’s  UL-Certified CCS rapid charging systems.

These solutions utilise the Combined Charging System (CCS) which can charge electric aircraft, cars, aircraft tugs, buses and other common airport transportation, explains Signature Aviation, with the system already installed at over 20 airports across the US.

“By focusing on electrifying key aviation assets in major cities such as New York and Chicago, we are taking essential steps toward making sustainable and efficient air travel a reality,” said Bryan Bernard, Archer’s chief growth and infrastructure officer. “This partnership will help us establish a robust network of landing sites across the country to enable the scaling of our air taxi service”.

In March 2023, United Airlines and Archer announced their intentions to launch an air taxi route between O’Hare International and Vertiport Chicago, north America’s largest vertical aircraft takeoff and landing facility.
