TT Electronics addresses ‘technical challenge’ of electric aircraft
The new breed of electric aircraft pose fresh challenges for systems developers – and TT Electronics is working on technology to help this new segment of the market achieve its goals.
Speaking to Aerospace Global News at the Farnborough International Airshow 2024, Julian Thomas, engineering director for TT Electronics, said the new aircraft pose a “big technical challenge”.
He continued: “As we go into the next generation of more electric aircraft we need to consider what is the impact of these same electronics operating at high altitude.
“In order to achieve some of the objectives of those aircraft we need to operate at higher voltages. Those higher voltages lead to breakdown at altitude. This is the technical challenge we at TT ELectronics have been working hard on over the last few years to resolve.
“We have a number of programmes coming to completion now … and things that we are still working on in technology developments over the coming years.”
Last week, TT Electronics announced that its Cleveland, Ohio facility has signed a significant new contract with Parker.
This multi-million pound agreement focuses on the production of complex electronic assemblies for commercial aircraft braking systems through 2027, further cementing the long-standing collaboration between TT Electronics and Parker.
Formerly known as Meggitt plc and acquired by the Parker-Hannifin Corporation in September 2022, Parker’s technology and products are integral to many major aircraft platforms.
TT Electronics has been delivering comprehensive manufacturing and agile supply chain solutions to Parker for more than a decade. This latest contract award not only reinforces the strategic partnership between the two companies but also highlights Parker’s trust in TT’s proven expertise in challenging aerospace and defence applications.
